I am a full time student at Wichita State University (WSU) majoring in Integrated Marketing and the captain of the WSU Dance team. I am the Director of Formal Recruitment for the Alpha Phi Sorority. In addition, I work part time at ServiceMaster as a Marketing Assistant.
My platform as Miss Kansas International is the prevention of battered women. I chose this platform as I witnessed a close family member suffer abuse. Unfortunately, one in every four women experiences some sort of physical or emotional abuse. Abusive relationships can start as young as high school students. 1 in 5 female high school students report being physically and/or sexually abused by a dating partner. I want to bring awareness of this issue by speaking in local high schools and elementary schools.
Along with promoting my platform in schools, I am also involved with the Wichita WIN (Women’s Initiative Network) organization. WIN is a nonprofit community partnership that provides survivors of abuse with educational and employment opportunities to foster healing and self-sufficiency.
My goal is to help educate as many women that I can, no matter their age. Everyone has the right to feel safe and loved. Remember, every 9 seconds a woman is being abused!
